LONDON: The Scotland Yard have arrested a least four suspects allegedly involved in acts of terror and supporting rebels in Syria righting Bashar al-Assad's forces, with a 27-year-old man and 26-year-old woman being the latest suspects to be detained.
British police Thursday said they had arrested two more people over alleged involvement in terrorism in Syria following the discovery of ammunition at the port of Dover.
A man aged 37 and a woman aged 36 were detained at a house in Essex on Wednesday following a search and are still being questioned, the Metropolitan Police said.
They were held "on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism", it said.
Their arrests came after two men aged 29 and 22, both British citizens, were held on Monday in Dover after arriving from Calais in France and a quantity of ammunition was seized.The two men, understood to be of Pakistani heritage, are now being questioned in London.
"The arrests relate to suspected terrorism in Syria," the force said.
Police were carrying out searches at premises in east London and in Lancashire, northern England, while two vehicles have also been searched, it said.
"The searches are ongoing and we are unable to provide more details at this stage," it said.
